York Georgian Society

Visits

The Society organises visits to country houses and other Georgian buildings during the summer months for members and their guests. The 2008 programme included the rare privilege of a visit to Wentworth Woodhouse, former seat of the Earls Fitzwilliam. Its east façade, shown above, is the longest continuous house frontage in the country.

The Summer Programme for 2009 included visits to Bramham Park, Kiplin Hall, Scampston Hall and other houses, and to Howsham Mill. The Society’s seventieth anniversary was celebrated by an evening tour of the landscape at Castle Howard, taking in sculptures and monuments, and culminating in sparkling wine, canapés and the cutting of a celebration cake at the Temple of the Four Winds.

The Society’s Summer Programme for 2010 will be announced in March.
